Beato Innocenzo da Berzo, chiesa di Santa Maria Nascente.
Nella chiesa parrocchiale di Berzo Inferiore si trova la teca contenente le esequie del beato Innocenzo da Demo al secolo Giovanni Scalvinoni (Niardo, 19 marzo 1844 – Bergamo, 3 marzo 1890).
Giovanni Scalvinoni nacque a Niardo, in provincia di Brescia, il 19 marzo 1844 da un umile famiglia, composta dalla madre e dal padre che morì poco dopo la sua nascita. La sua istruzione si svolse dapprima nel collegio di Lovere dove rimase cinque anni e quindi nel seminario di Brescia dove, il 2 giugno 1867, ricevette l'ordinazione sacerdotale e il suo nuovo nome, Innocenzo Maria.
Il suo primo incarico, come vicario, fu a Cevo, in Val Saviore, dove rimase per soli due anni prima di essere nominato vice-rettore proprio del seminario in cui aveva studiato, quello di Brescia.
Allontanato dopo un anno, venne nominato vice-parroco di Berzo Inferiore, dove insegnò come professore; in seguito aderì all'ordine dei frati minori cappuccini, entrando come novizio nel convento dell'Annunciata di Cogno.
Pronunciati i voti venne mandato come frate ad Albino dove pronunciò i voti solenni e di nuovo venne mandato all'Annunciata, dove rimase 14 anni, stavolta come vice-maestro dei novizi del convento, distinguendosi per alcuni fenomeni mistici quali la Scrutatio Cordis, la fotofania, la levitazione, le estasi e le benedizioni miracolose. Questi fenomeni, testimoniati al processo di beatificazione, attiravano moltissime persone al Convento dell'Annunciata. Dopo alcuni trasferimenti (Milano e Crema), gli venne affidato l'incarico di dirigere e predicare gli esercizi spirituali nei conventi di Milano, Albino, Bergamo e Brescia.
Ammalatosi gravemente ad Albino, fu trasferito nell'infermeria dei cappuccini di Bergamo, dove morì il 3 marzo 1890. Seppellito prima a Bergamo, fu portato poi a Berzo Inferiore (BS).
Il paese di Berzo si trova nella parte inferiore della Val Grigna, preceduto a monte da Bienno ed a valle da Esine ed è molto carino da visitare e conoscere.

In the parish church of Berzo Inferiore there is the reliquary containing the funeral of the blessed Innocenzo da Demo at the time Giovanni Scalvinoni (Niardo, 19 March 1844 - Bergamo, 3 March 1890).
Giovanni Scalvinoni was born in Niardo, in the province of Brescia, on March 19, 1844 from a humble family, composed of his mother and his father who died shortly after his birth. His education took place first in the college of Lovere where he remained five years and then in the seminary of Brescia where, on June 2, 1867, he received the priestly ordination and his new name, Innocenzo Maria.
His first position as vicar was in Cevo, Val Saviore, where he remained for only two years before being appointed vice-rector of the seminary he had studied in, that of Brescia.
After a year he was appointed vice-parish priest of Berzo Inferiore, where he taught as a professor; later he joined the order of the Capuchin friars minor, entering as a novice in the convent of the Annunciata di Cogno.
Pronounced the vows he was sent as friar to Albino where he pronounced the solemn vows and was again sent to the Annunciation, where he remained 14 years, this time as vice-master of the novices of the convent, distinguishing himself for some mystical phenomena such as the Scrutatio Cordis, the photophany , levitation, ecstasy and miraculous blessings. These phenomena, witnessed to the process of beatification, attracted many people to the Convent of the Annunciation. After some transfers (Milan and Crema), he was entrusted with the task of directing and preaching the spiritual exercises in the convents of Milan, Albino, Bergamo and Brescia.
After being seriously ill in Albino, he was transferred to the Capuchin Infirmary of Bergamo, where he died on March 3, 1890. First buried in Bergamo, he was then taken to Berzo Inferiore (BS).
The town of Berzo is located in the lower part of Val Grigna, preceded upstream from Bienno and downstream from Esine and is very nice to visit and get to know.
